The Little s-10 that could
Chris Bishir, and his Twin Turbo 6.0 LS powered 82 Chevy S-10 are headed to Pacemakers Dragway, in Mount Vernon, OH on April 20th for the Untouchable No Prep Shootout sponsored by Trick Flow Specialties. Chris admits, "While I may be outgunned in the horsepower department at this race one big benefit is all the seat time and data from racing the same combo for years." Racing against guys like Joey Rabiola "Boost 12", Eric Bain, and Chris Hamilton, will undoubtedly be tough, but Chris is confident he can do some damage.
some history on the truck
We asked Chris about the history of the truck, he tells us, "Ive had the S-10 for around 13 years, I purchased the truck from a local friend (Ryan Hubbard) who had already swapped in a mild sbc combo. It didn’t take long and I began to upgrade things here and there. In 2007 I decided to get a bit more serious about racing and got busy updating the chassis, susp and a new drivetrain that centered around a corn fed 383 SBC with a single plate. The combo performed well for a few years and ran consistent 9.0s@150, and managed to take home a few wins in the NMCA true street class.
Wanting more power and being tired of the maintenance that goes along with a nitrous car I wanted a change, after riding in a friends (Nick Shultz) ls turbo streetcar, I was instantly hooked on boost and made the swap to an LS engine, EFI, and twin 66m turbos in 2012. A stock 5.3 lived happily for 3 years and was eventually swapped out for a forged 6.0 in 2016.
While moving forward trying to wring every last bit of speed out of this combo one thing I haven’t forgotten is street-ability, You can drive it anywhere, kick ass at the track and drive home, its totally dual purpose. The past few years Ive been more focused on heads up racing, I love the competition, and you really need to be on your game with a well sorted car to go rounds."
The Truck now has a Holley EFI equipped 6.0 LS motor with 71mm turbos backed by a powerglide tranny. Also, the truck is still stock suspension, on leaf springs.
couldn't do it Without a strong home base
No one can be “all in” with the race lifestyle without a strong home base and its no different with me, my wife Stephanie is very supportive, attending races and understanding about all the time associated with traveling, maintenance, part changes, etc. She deserves a lot of credit. Chris also gives credit to his buddies from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Team 260.
