One man and a single car garage
In the day and age of professional shop built race cars, and mail order engines… everything you need to go fast can be a phone call and a credit card away. Finding somebody willing to work on their own car, and build everything from scratch is becoming rare. Chassis, roll cage, engine, transmission, electrical system, fuel system, and the Nitrous system, all built by one man in a single car garage.
Garth Lightfoot of Springfield Ohio, Has been Street Racing before the ink was dry on his drivers license in 1989.
“My dad John Lightfoot was always into cars and racing. He liked Fords. I don’t have a problem with any other makes. I’ve had a couple Dodges, but I’m partial to Fords.”
Garth’s first car was a ’76 Maverick. A simple 302, 4spd car.
When we asked Garth how many cars he’s owned over the years, he couldn’t easily recall, but figured he has owned at least 15 Race Cars. When asked how many of them had been used to Street Raced, Garth replied, “All of them.”
It would stand straight up if you weren't careful
Garth has been a mechanic his entire life, known by many as the man to go see with any kind of problem involving cars or trucks. When a major back surgery forced him to take some time off work, Garth sold all his race cars and parts, Including his famous black Austin powered by a Big Block Ford with a serious shot of Nitrous.
“The Austin was a really good car. The engine was set way back in it, almost under the windshield and it would hook up good on the street. It would stand straight up if you weren’t careful.”
Along came The henry J
Garth began to get back into Racing after recovering from a major back surgery. A Foxbody Mustang and a Mercury Capri were purchased, and raced for years. He explained, “But the newer cars just didn’t feel right, and I started looking for a new project.”
One day, Garth came across a Craigslist Ad for a 1953 Henry J, and he arranged to go look at it. The old Kaiser was found parked in a barn.
“The floor boards and rockers were completely gone. But I just couldn’t walk away from it. I just had to have it. I struck a deal on the car, and we drug it outside. It wasn’t until I had it up on the trailer that I realized how bad it really was. But, it had a clear Ohio title. “
The original plan for the Henry was to cut off the ancient front suspension and frame rails, and put a modern front frame section on it. The original rear frame rails would be reused, and a 9” Ford would be bolted in place of the original rear axle. Of course, a nice fresh Small Block Ford would be set between the front frame rails.
Unfortunately, the original frame was in such poor shape, there was just no way to save it. Garth pulled out his trusty Jegs Catalogue and started making a list of parts. A Jegster Roll Cage kit and frame rails were ordered, along with all the necessary suspension parts to mount the ladder bars and the new Ford 9” rear axle with Disc Brakes.
Up front, the Henry sports Mustang II suspension, with rack and pinion steering and modern disc brakes.
Garth sold the original front fenders and hood that were nearly perfect and offset the cost of some of the go fast parts he needed.
Parts Including a new one piece Fiberglass nose, truck lid, and doors from ScottRodsCustom.com. The plan is to use Lexan for all the window glass. The original steel roof, dash, and quarter panels will remain.
I’ve got plans to use one of my home made Nitrous Plates that I’ve used for years on different engines.”
The Henry J also needed a new power plant. Garth had kept his trusty Big Block Ford from his Mustang, but decided to sell the Big Block and instead utilize a very healthy 427ci Small Block Ford. Garth was very stingy about specifics on the internals, but would verify it had 13:1 compression, a healthy solid roller camshaft, and of course a couple Nitrous kits.
“The intake is already plumbed for a fogger, and I’ve got plans to use one of my home made Nitrous Plates that I’ve used for years on different engines.”
Garth's 427 Small Block ford
Currently the engine sports a Holley Dominator Carburetor set up for Alcohol, and its own belt driven fuel pump. But the Nitrous system will have its own stand alone fuel system for Race Gas. The idea being that alcohol helps keep the engine cool, it makes more power, is less prone to detonation, and is less expensive than race gas.
Homemade Nitrous Plate that has been used for years
The plan is to make it to the first midnight madness
Garth has a lot of work to get done before Racing season begins. The plan is to race the car for the first time during the $20,000 to win “Midnight Madness” season opener at KD Dragway in South Webster, Ohio. The 1/8th mile outlaw track has become famous for hosting “Street Racing style events”, that has drawn attention from all over the country.
“When you first go to KD and you see the shut down going up that hill, its pretty intimidating. But once you make a pass, you just want to do it again. It’s incredible how much its helped bring back interest in heads up racing in Ohio. We can’t wait to go.”
We can’t wait to see you there Garth.

"Marlon was known as superman to his loved ones"
Marlon E Senter "Fast Lane" went to be with the lord on April 3rd, 2018. He was a selfless man that lived a good and promising life. Marlon was known as "SUPERMAN" to his loved ones, because there was nothing the we felt he could not do; nor tried to do for the well being and positive growth of his family. He would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger, and help anyone in any way he could. Marlon always carried a smile on his face, no matter what life threw in his way. Marlon leaves behind his mother Joyce Senter, and a host of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, along with 5 children of his own, (Mercedes, Diamond, Brittany, Jasmine, and Marlon Jr. He also leaves behind 15 grand children that truly adore him.
On Tuesday, Family and Friends gathered at the Scioto River Bridge to celebrate the life of Marlon by participating in a balloon release. The support for Marlon and his family was overwhelming as people of all different walks of life came to support. From Motorcycle clubs, to Drag Racers, and people who crossed paths with Marlon at one point in time.
from the writer:
"Marlon was a great man, I had the pleasure of meeting him at Pacemakers Cash Days last year. The first time I saw Marlon I thought, wow that guy is strong, I wouldn't want to mess with him! After seeing his smile, and the way he carried himself I knew he was a good man. Marlon and I exchanged $100 the first day we met on a grudge race with the "NOS-S10" and Jimmy Lomax's Foxbody Mustang. He shook his head at me and smiled as he handed over the $100. Marlon loved racing, whether it was cars, motorcycles or racing on foot!"

Roberts team includes his son-in law James, Son Robert Nau II, and Brother Ben Nau, the Driver of this wicked AMC Gremlin. Chris Bishir, and his Twin Turbo 6.0 LS powered 82 Chevy S-10 are headed to Pacemakers Dragway, in Mount Vernon, OH on April 20th for the Untouchable No Prep Shootout sponsored by Trick Flow Specialties. Chris admits, "While I may be outgunned in the horsepower department at this race one big benefit is all the seat time and data from racing the same combo for years." Racing against guys like Joey Rabiola "Boost 12", Eric Bain, and Chris Hamilton, will undoubtedly be tough, but Chris is confident he can do some damage.
On Friday April 20th, at a little 1/8th mile track in Mount Vernon, Ohio "Patches" will be put to the test. The competition will be nothing less than the best, with Boosted GT, Jason Cantu, Boost 12, Boosted Ego, John Quick, J.P. Delisi, Derek Travis, and so many other tough competitors. Pacemakers Dragway Park, will be host to thousands of race fans who come to see the best in the business battle it out on a surface that not many have any testing or data. On that night some of the fastest, most powerful Hot-Rods, could be taken out in the first round by local heroes...
Local Heroes like Goran Stanisovski, and his crowd favorite 65 Chevy Nova that goes by the name of "Patches".
This won't be Goran's first or second time running at Pacemakers, he has made many passes down the little 1/8th mile track and that alone will give him an advantage over most. Goran has been making a name for his self lately not only at the local level, but at the National Level! Multiple appearances at Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings races including a Final Round Appearance at Orangeburg.
Before all the Street Outlaws racing, "Patches" sat in the winners circle at National Trail Raceway and was crowned "King of Columbus", a highly respected title in Ohio.
"My name is John Kramer or Johnny Quick some call me"
John Kramer, AKA "Johnny Quick" Is preparing to race in the Untouchable No Prep Shootout presented by Trick Flow Specialties on April 20th-21st at Pacemakers Dragway Park, located in Mount Vernon, Ohio. John will be competing against some of the best Small Tire No Prep Racers in the country with guys like Chris Hamilton "Boosted GT", Jason Cantu, "Boost12", Derek Travis, the Blain Brothers, and many more.
We asked John to tell a little about himself to which he replied, "My name is John Kramer, or Johnny Quick some like to call me. I am a Brick Layer and also do some race car fabricating in my shop at home. My Girl Friend Nikki races her Motorcycle, and supports my habit that gets way out of hand, but she deals with it.
Below is a video of John racing in his Mustang against his Girl Friend Nikki, on her Hayabusa.
A 3000hp Monster on 28x10.5 tires
Eric Bain, and "Boosted Ego" the insanely fast 540ci BBC Twin Turbo Mustang, will be attending the Untouchable No Prep Series season opener April 20th and 21st at Pacemakers Dragway Park, in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Winning the race won't be as easy as you'd think with all that power. "Boosted Ego" will have some tough competition against some of the best small tire no prep cars in the country including Boosted GT, Jason Cantu, J.P. Delisi, John Quick, Derek Travis, and many others will be ready to battle for the money. At a track many of the guys have never been to, with no test passes, and no data for the surface, a mouse could trip up a lion in the first round or two.
The Silver Unit to attend Untouchable No Prep Shootout
Derek Travis, owner and driver of the Silver Unit Camaro has locked in a spot into the Untouchable No Prep Shootout presented by Trick Flow Specialties. April 20th, Derek plans to be racing against some of the best small tire no prep racers around including, Boosted GT, Jason Cantu, Boost12, John Quick, and many others under the lights at the historic Pacemakers Dragway Park in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Derek's 86' Camaro is powered by a 706 Cubic inch Big Block Chevy, equipped with 3 stages of Inductions Solutions Nitrous. Derek tells us he has had the car for 15 years, and originally bought the car as a roller. We asked Derek about the car, and he told us, "I never thought I would have anything this fast, but it's pretty quick." Quick is an understatement, this car flat out gets with the program, and to be on small tires for this no prep race... It will be a challenge. However it is a challenge accepted by a No prep, and Street Racing Veteran, such as Derek.
If you have watched the show Street Outlaws on Discovery, you have probably seen Derek, especially on the earlier seasons. Derek is known for betting on shirt sleeves, I have a feeling he may be taking some sleeves back home with him after April 20th-21st.
Heads up racing on the rise
In 2017, thousands of Drag Racing fans took to Pacemakers Dragway park to see what the buzz was all about. "Cash Days" became a household name in Central Ohio, and gained quite a reputation of being the event to go to. If you liked to see fast cars racing old school, heads up style off of a flashlight, or instant green tree, you were there, and if you weren't there... you missed out!

Just in the nick of time
You may remember seeing a voting article about a week or so ago on this site. Out of the 13 Drivers listed in that article, Boost 12 happened to receive about 1/3 votes. Joey Rabiola contacted us as we were putting the article together, we had already decided we would do a vote to find out who the last entry should be. As I had just finished punching in car number 11's information in the voting article, I get a message from him, and he wants in the deal. The 12th car added to the article was "Boost 12", and he is coming to Pacemakers Dragway Park April 20th. Joey got in the vote with only minutes to spare, making him the 32nd and final entry into the Untouchable No Prep Shootout Sponsored by Trick Flow Specialties.

What do you love about racing?
"I love racing because it brings friends and families together.
It also shows how smart people can be. I like to watch while someone fixes their car,
trouble shooting every possibility. It’s amazing how much someone can learn when they
love the subject. I also love how every car is a representation of whomever owns it.
Whether it is the color, what’s under the hood, what kind of wheels are on it, ect."
What are your favorite hobbies?
"I don’t have a whole lot of time for hobbies between
school, work and helping with Street Racing Channel activities. One thing I love to do
during the summer, when I’m not at the track or working, is taking my dog Jake for hikes
somewhere pretty. Watching him sniff around and run in circles out of excitement of being
outside makes me very happy."
"To marry the love of my life (Billy Hoskinson). Have a cute little house
somewhere on the outskirts of town, preferably by a coast. Have three kids, a boy and a
girl and I’d like to adopt. For a career, I’d like to work with an Organization or
for the government writing policy papers, changing policies that are outdated and make
the community better. And hopefully Save some animals and the environment along the
